Caterina De Nicola

A minute or two

Event   12. May 2024, 19:00

On Sunday 12 May at 7:00 pm, the artist and musician Caterina De Nicola will perform her new sound piece "A minute or two” at Doom Spa in Berlin.

Comprising two parts, "A minute or Two” will be inaugurated with the performance. The second part follows in July 2024, and will take place as a presentation of Caterina De Nicola's debut video work at Halle für Kunst Lüneburg.

De Nicola's musical practice is influenced by various subgenres of noise and consists primarily of staccato rhythms and drone elements. She moves along the margins of so-called no-fi aesthetics and, at the same time, reconfigures them. The term "no-fi" implies a lack of sonic fidelity, an imperfection. De Nicola interprets it as a deliberate and subversive means against a prevailing musical ideal. Noise can be understood as an "anti-language," as the artist herself describes it, and implies a critique of the virtues of meritocracy and the oppression of voices or as a form of articulation of the zeitgeist.

Caterina De Nicola (*1991 in Ortona, IT; lives and works in Zurich, CH) is an artist and musician. In addition to fiction, writing and sound, her practice also involves working with objects and exploring their formal and discursive patterns while redefining them. A selection of recent solo exhibitions include: Reek of Past Pitfalls at Istituto Svizzero (Milan, 2023), Infedele at Baleno International (Rome, 2022), We Unleash Storms, Yet We Like The Sun at Last Tango (duo show, Zurich, 2022), Lonely Fans at Chickentown (Zurich, 2021), Embarrassed and Conciliatory at Il Colorificio (Milan, 2019).

Halle für Kunst Lüneburg cordially invites you to the performance and drinks at Doom Spa Berlin.
