Cartography does not merely depict the world, but actively shapes and structures it. As a tool of colonial expansion, it serves to define territories and delineate borders. However, cartographic methods can also be used to trace connections—between places and times, ideas and lifeworlds, the past and the present. In the exhibition TRANS/VERSAL, maps are not read to provide orientation, but to reveal relations.

MARTIN KRAFFT’s artistic practice also seeks to initiate encounters. As part of his project Poetry for Strangers, he recited a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke to strangers in various locations across Berlin, sharing with them an unexpected experience of poetry in everyday life. After more than 1,000 readings, the project has found new permutations in Lüneburg. Alongside this, curators LISA DEML and MARIE-SOPHIE DORSCH will give a guided tour of the exhibition and invite everyone to join in conversation over coffee and cake.
